An interactive guide to historical images of Topsfield and the resting places of those who served in the American Revolution
Phase I — Initial ReleaseTopsfield is one of the oldest towns in Massachusetts, incorporated in 1650, and its landscape preserves an extraordinary record of colonial and revolutionary-era history. This interactive map is the first phase of an ongoing project by the Topsfield Historical Society to document, locate, and share the town’s heritage through old photos and information about its historic buildings and memorial sites.
Explore the map to discover historic structures that have survived from Topsfield's early times, and to pay tribute to the men of Topsfield who answered the call during the American Revolution — many of whom are buried within our town's historic cemeteries.
This project will continue to grow. New sites, photographs, historical notes, and documentary sources will be added in future phases as research progresses. Contributions from residents and researchers are welcomed.
Rare glass plate photographs captured by Otto Lake between 1890 and 1920 document Topsfield's landscapes, people, and everyday life during that era. Each is geolocated on the interactive map.

Initial compilation of known historic structures and Revolutionary War veteran burial sites within Topsfield. Base map established with Google Maps integration and public access via the Topsfield Historical Society website.
Addition of historical photographs, architectural descriptions, and documentary sources for each mapped site. Inclusion of Civil War and subsequent military veteran memorials.
Detailed transcription of headstone inscriptions, cross-referenced with town vital records and THS archives. Links to available genealogical records and biographical notes.
Open submission portal for community-sourced site additions and corrections. Development of curated self-guided walking tours linking related sites and historical narratives.
